Dr. Omanakutty was the professor of music at the Swati Thirunal college of music in Trivandrum, India. The Fine Arts Academy with the support of Texas Tech Music Department, arranged a concert of hers in Lubbock much to the delight of all music lovers. This was a non ticketed event and was sponsored by C V G Vallabhan to honor his late wife Shakuntala Vallabhan.

Mr. Hussain and Mr. Pandey, treated the Indian classical music lovers to a night of sheer bliss with their heavenly music. Hindustani style of performance was being brought to Lubbock for the first time and for this event we had huge support from the Texas Tech Music Department. Mr. Hussain and Pandey were courteous to give a lecture demonstration to the music students at Tech.

The academy brought flute maestro S. Shashank to treat the music lovers of Lubbock to a night of enchanting flute with the accompaniment of mridangam, ghatam and violin.
The Living Tree - A Classical Dance Drama

This was the flagship program of the academy. The Living Tree is a folk tale set in an Indian village. It is a very simple story of the relationship between a little girl and a tree. The story is not just engaging in many levels, but it also provided a broad framework in which to create vibrant and colorful sections reflecting village life, traditions and rituals. With background music composed as a combination of classical and folk songs and with seamless integration with apt rhythm, this program was a true delight for the audience and the organizers.
